Happy Birthday to Me

For my birthday today, I’ve decided to create a Facebook Group called “Did You Art Today?”

I miss teaching. I miss the friendship of fellow creatives. My mission for the page is to inspire, nudge, and encourage all, regardless of medium or experience, to participate and enjoy tapping into their creativity, by lifting each other up during a time of great uncertainty. Believing that sharing beauty can be beneficial to all.

While I’ve decided to let the page develop organically, I have a ton of ideas and will give them all a try. Will also solicit ideas from the group and encourage interaction and support. This new page will include some missions, some tips, lots of encouragement, and hopefully a community that will promote growth and expression.

Please feel free to celebrate my birthday by joining my group. The act of sharing the beauty of creativity will be quite the gift!

It Doesn’t Always Work

New colors, old colors, I will repeat a phrase I used often while teaching.  They are not always masterpieces.  In some cases, you don’t even like them.

Still using my new colors, and the lovely journal with the handmade paper.  I decided to try a painting today that included water drops.  Inspired by Nitamp’s photo on Paint My Photo, a morning glory reference shot seemed like a good choice.

The supposed water drops morphed into some sort of grey white bug. The more I messed, the worse it got.  Lesson learned.  Practice water drops…..maybe on paper that is a bit smoother.

What lessons have you learned lately?

New Colors Part Four

Once again, using a reference photo from Medford Florist, I popped out another floral. Beginning to feel a bit more comfortable with the palette colors, so to shake things up, I used a journal with some handmade paper. Lots of texture in the paper (making signatures a bit difficult) and the book did not lay flat very easily, sort of limiting the useable area of the paper. But I did enjoy the flow and absorbency of paper.

Thanks again, to Medford Florist….not just for their generosity in allowing me to paint from their photos, but for their stunning floral designs. #Worldwatercolormonth

World Watercolor Month 7/31/16

#Worldwatercolormonth is done!

Made it….finished.  Congratulations to all who finished and/or participated.  What a great bunch of artists; supportive, talented and funny. And a big shout out to Charlie’s O’Shields from Doodlewash fame.  This clever young man brought us all together and included a cause….and he is continuing the group under the name World Watercolor Group.

Thanks also to Nadine Broeders for the reference photo which can be found on the Facebook page, Photos for Artists.

Below are 28 of the 31 paintings I did. Three had already been made into birthday cards and sent along, so they’re not in the final group photo. As mentioned before, these paintings will be made into cards and sent along to Bringing Smiles to Forgotten Seniors.

Thanks for following along….I won’t lie, it was difficult to do while moving with the added challenge of no internet service for 5 days, but it got done, and I am thrilled to be able to send them along to make someone smile.

Now if I could just figure out where my paintbrushes are in the new studio.

Day 28

It’s a good thing I painted ahead!  Barely have time to post between the movers and packing/unpacking.  Painted from my view from the window of the condo we are moving from. Although he was actually perched on a pipe.  Don’t you just love artistic license?

Squeaking in again tonight.  This moving is taking it’s toll.  Still no real internet access, but here you go.  Painted from Sinead Mackomaire’s photo found on The New Site, Reference Photos for artists on Facebook.
